This paper analyses in detail the rules governing the use of guarantors as one of several methods available for the provision of housing loans. In addition, the article investigates alternative methods of providing housing loans, including the use of mortgage loans, the use of insurance and the use of housing deposits. The author also looks at international methods of improving the provision of housing for the economically disadvantaged.
