Depressive regions

This paper studies the concept, main causes and features of depressed regions. The article highlights the main stages of development of the theory of depressive regions in research on regional issues, as well as defines the core indicators to measure the depressed state of the region. Based on the analysis of the development of depressed regions in foreign countries the paper offers basic recommendations for improving regional policy in the Republic of Belarus. Using a number of socio-economic indicators, the analysis of the level of depressiveness of regions (districts) of Belarus is conducted.
